HONOLULU – The Hawaii Department of Transportation (HDOT) notifies Oahu motorists of upcoming lane closures on the H-1 Freeway in the westbound direction between the Pearl City/Waimalu offramp (Exit 10) and the H-1/H-2 split over four consecutive weekends for micropile installations.

See below for weekend schedule:

  • Friday night, April 20, 2018 at 9 p.m. through Saturday, April 21, 2018 at 12 p.m. noon – Three right lanes will be closed for concrete pours.
  • Saturday, April 21, 2018 at 12 p.m. noon through Saturday, April 21, 2018 at 6 p.m. – Two right lanes will be closed as the concrete cures.
  • Saturday, April 21, 2018 at 6 p.m. through Sunday, April 22, 2018 at 11:59 p.m. – Three right lanes will be closed for pavement restoration and clean-up.

The same schedule will be followed on the weekends of Friday, April 27, 2018;  Friday, May 4, 2018; Friday, May 11, 2018.

The micropiles are being installed to support the drain boxes and covers which are located in the right travel lane. Micropiles will give the drain structures the additional needed support to sustain the weight of vehicle loads. The installation requires the use of large equipment (i.e., cranes, drill rigs, and concrete mixers and pumpers).

Closures throughout the weekend will allow crews to maximize their productivity and efficiently complete the installation work while minimizing the impacts to motorists by not closing lanes during the peak AM and PM travel times on weekdays.

Electronic message boards will be posted to warn motorists of the closures. Special Duty Police Officers will be on-site to assist with traffic control. Weekly roadwork updates will be posted on the HDOT website at https://hidot.hawaii.gov/highways/roadwork/ and released through our social media channels on Facebook and Twitter.

HDOT advises motorists to allow for extra travel time and check traffic apps before heading to their destinations. Roadwork is weather permitting.
