Nightly closure of westbound H-1 Freeway for the Kapolei Interchange project scheduled to begin Sunday, Feb. 11

HONOLULU – The Hawaii Department of Transportation (HDOT) advises Oahu motorists that the westbound H-1 Freeway will be closed between the Makakilo Drive overpass and the Kalaeloa Boulevard overpass during the overnight hours of 10 p.m. to 5 a.m. on Sunday night, Feb. 11, 2018 through Friday morning, Feb. 16, 2018.

A full closure of the H-1 Freeway is necessary for crews to work on the Farrington Highway overpass as part of the Kapolei Interchange Complex, Phase 2 project.

Motorists traveling on the westbound H-1 Freeway will be directed to Makakilo Drive via the Makakilo/Kapolei/Kalaeloa offramp (Exit 2) and may continue on Farrington Highway/Kamokila Boulevard, Wakea Street, and the Farrington Highway onramp to return to the westbound H-1 Freeway. Electronic message boards will be posted to warn motorists of the closure. Special Duty Police Officers will be on-site to assist with traffic control. Emergency vehicles, first responders, and TheBus have been notified of the roadwork and will not be allowed through the work zone.

Other lane closures associated with this project are listed below.

  • Two right lanes closed on the H-1 Freeway in the westbound direction between the Kualakai Parkway underpass and the Makakilo Drive overpass on Sunday night, Feb. 11, 2018 through Friday morning, Feb. 16, 2018 from 9 p.m. to 5 a.m. for guardrail installations.
  • Right lane closure on the H-1 Freeway in the eastbound direction between Laaloa Street and the Kalaeloa Boulevard overpass on Sunday night, Feb. 11,  2018 through Wednesday morning, Feb. 14, 2018 from 10 p.m. to 4 a.m., for overhead sign work. The Campbell Industrial Park/Barbers Point Harbor offramp (Exit 1A) will be closed. Motorists will be detoured via the Makakilo/Kapolei/Kalaeloa Off-Ramp (Exit 1B) offramp and may continue on Kamokila Boulevard and Kapolei Parkway. To view a detour map, click here.
  • Left lane closure on the H-1 Freeway in both directions between the Wakea Street onramp and the Kualakai Parkway underpass on Monday, Feb. 12, 2018 through Friday, Feb. 16, 2018 from 8:30 a.m. to 3 p.m., for work on the median.
  • Lane closure on Farrington Highway in the eastbound direction between Kalaeloa Boulevard and Wakea Street on Monday, Feb. 12, 2018 through Friday, Feb. 16, 2018 from 8:30 a.m. to 3 p.m., for traffic barrier work. Traffic will be contraflowed.

HDOT advises motorists to allow for extra travel time and check traffic apps before heading to their destinations. Roadwork is weather permitting.
