Posted on Jan 5, 2017 in Main, News

HONOLULU – The Hawaii Department of Transportation (HDOT), Harbors Division invites the community to a public informational meeting regarding the relocation of the iHeart Radio Broadcast Tower, currently situated near the corner of Dillingham Boulevard and Kokea Street.

The meeting is scheduled at the following time and location:

 Thursday, Jan. 19, 2017
Open House 4-6 p.m.
Presentation/Q&A 6-8 p.m.
Farrington High School Cafeteria
1564 North King Street
Honolulu, HI 96817

The purpose of the meeting is to apprise the public about the project and to solicit input on the site selection process. The proposed relocation of the tower will improve operational efficiencies of the aviation and maritime industries. In addition, there is a public safety component. Five radio stations currently transmit from the tower, including KSSK 590 AM, which is designated as one of the Hawaii Emergency Management Agency’s Emergency Alert System (EAS) broadcasters. Therefore, the identification of a suitable relocation site is necessary to ensure continued, uninterrupted EAS service as a matter of public safety.

The meeting is accessible for individuals with disabilities. To request language interpretation, an auxiliary aid or special services (e.g., sign language interpreter and accessible parking), please contact Mr. Dean Watase at least seven (7) days prior to the meeting date.
