Weekend closure scheduled for the Kipapa Stream (Roosevelt) Bridge Rehabilitation project beginning Friday, March 2

HONOLULU – The Hawaii Department of Transportation (HDOT) Highways Division, alerts Oahu motorists that Kamehameha Highway will be closed over the weekend in both directions between Ka Uka Boulevard and Lanikuhana Avenue beginning at 9 p.m. on Friday night, March 2, 2018, continuously through 5 a.m. on Monday morning, March 5, 2018, for the Kipapa Stream (Roosevelt) Bridge Rehabilitation project.

Construction will be relocating the utility lines along the southbound (makai) lanes of Kamehameha Highway to the northbound (mauka) lanes to begin extension work on the makai side of the bridge. Remaining construction for the Kipapa Stream (Roosevelt) Bridge Rehabilitation project includes bridge extension, concrete overlay, and rail and utility installations on the makai side of the bridge and installation of underground conduits and pull boxes for utilities on the mauka side of the bridge.

HDOT advises motorists to avoid Kamehameha Highway and use the H-2 Freeway as an alternate route. Electronic message boards will be posted to warn motorists of the closures. Special Duty Police Officers will be on-site to assist with traffic control. Emergency vehicles, first responders, and TheBus have been notified of the roadwork. Roadwork is weather permitting.
