Weekend closures scheduled in May for the Kipapa Stream (Roosevelt) Bridge rehabilitation project

HONOLULU – The Hawaii Department of Transportation (HDOT) alerts Oahu motorists that Kamehameha Highway will be closed in both directions between Ka Uka Boulevard and Lanikuhana Avenue during the following weekends for bridge rehabilitation work at the Kipapa Stream (Roosevelt) Bridge.

  • Friday, May 4, 2018, at 9 p.m. continuously through Monday, May 7, 2018 at 5 a.m.
  • Friday, May 11, 2018, at 9 p.m. continuously through Monday, May 14, 2018 at 5 a.m.
  • Friday, May 18, 2018, at 9 p.m. continuously through Monday, May 21, 2018 at 5 a.m.

One remaining weekend closure is planned, and an update will be sent out once it is scheduled. The project is estimated to be completed by July 2018.

During closure hours, motorists may use the H-2 Freeway as an alternate route. HDOT advises motorists to allow for extra travel time to get to their destinations and check traffic apps like GoAkamai.org to plan their commutes.

Electronic message boards will be posted to warn motorists of the closures. Special Duty Police Officers will be on-site to assist with traffic control. Emergency vehicles and first responders have been notified of the roadwork and will be allowed through the closure. TheBus will be advised to take an alternate route. Roadwork is weather permitting.
