Lane Closures on Kalanianaole Highway Between Hanauma Bay and Sandy Beach for Emergency Bridge Repairs

HONOLULU  — The Hawaii Department of Transportation advises Oahu motorists of lane closures on Kalanianaole Highway between Lunalilo Home Road and Kealahou Street for bridge repairs. Construction begins Monday, October 7, through Friday, October 11, from 7 a.m. to 6 p.m., daily, and will continue through the end of the year. Traffic will be contraflowed during this time.

There will be a full road closure between the Koko Head Shooting Range Complex and the Halona Blowhole Lookout, on Tuesday, October 8, from 7 a.m. to 6 p.m. Motorists are advised to use Kealahou Street and Lunalilo Home Road as detour routes.

Repair to the Ihiihilauakea Bridge includes spall barrier and road repairs, followed with a carbon fiber wrap installation for reinforcement. Project cost is estimated at approximately $2.4 million.

Motorists are advised to use Kealahou Street and Lunalilo Home Road as a detour route around the work zone. Motorists are also advised to anticipate delays and to drive with caution through the work area.
