Nighttime Full Closures for the Kamehameha Highway Resurfacing Project Begins Monday, Oct. 12

HONOLULU – The Hawaii Department of Transportation (HDOT) Highways Division advises Oahu motorists of upcoming nighttime full road closures on Kamehameha Highway beginning on Monday night, October 12. There will be a full road closure of Kamehameha Highway in both directions from Ka Uka Boulevard to Lanikuhana Avenue, on Sunday nights through Friday mornings, from 8:30 p.m. to 4 a.m., nightly, for road resurfacing and reconstruction work. Roadwork is weather permitting

In addition, Daytime single lane closures will continue on Kamehameha Highway in both directions between Lanikuhana Avenue and Waihau Street, Monday through Friday, from 8:30 a.m. to 3 p.m., for guardrail, sidewalk/curb, and bus pad work.

Motorists are advised to expect traffic delays and use alternate roadways such as Meheula Parkway, Ka Uka Boulevard and the H-2 Freeway. Access notifications and arrangements will be made with emergency services, TheBus and affected area residents and businesses prior to the night closures.

The Kamehameha Highway Resurfacing project will provide a safe and smooth surface for motorists to drive on as well as upgraded road utilities. Construction includes major road resurfacing and reconstruction, along with guardrail safety improvements, traffic signal safety modifications, pedestrian safety improvements, utility modifications, landscaping and new signage.

Prior to the closure message boards will be posted near Ka Uka Boulevard and Lanikuhana Avenue near the road closure limits as a reminder to motorists of the upcoming road work. Lane closure information will be distributed to the media, will be available on the HDOT website at hidot.hawaii.gov, and will be released through our social media channels on Facebook and Twitter.
