Honolulu International Airport Runway Closures for Improvements Next Week

HONOLULU – The Hawaii Department of Transportation (HDOT) advises Ewa residents of an expected increase in nighttime aircraft traffic over the area due to runway closures for airfield improvements work. The closures will redirect flights to Runway 8R-26L (a.k.a. the Reef Runway) on a flight path over the Ewa communities and may increase air traffic noise during the evening and early morning hours.

Construction is weather dependent and is expected to begin Sunday night, November 16, through Saturday morning, November 22, from 4:30 p.m. to 5 a.m., nightly.

The HDOT appreciates residents’ patience and understanding as we work to improve the condition of the Honolulu International Airport’s runways.
