HONOLULU – The Hawaii Department of Transportation (HDOT) is alerting the public that the right lane of the H-3 Freeway in the Honolulu bound direction is closed due to damage on the roadway. The right lane closure begins on the Halawa side of the Ko’olau Mountain Range approximately half a mile from the Harano Tunnel. The closure will remain in effect continuously until the repairs are completed which is anticipated by Thursday, Nov. 26 at 4 a.m.

Both lanes of the H-3 Freeway will be closed in the Honolulu bound direction between the Likelike Highway and the Halawa Interchange for the overnight emergency repair work beginning Wednesday, Nov. 25 from 7 p.m. through 4 a.m. Thursday, Nov. 26.

A steel expansion joint that helps connect two segments of the roadway is damaged and needs to be repaired (see photos). The entire roadway must be closed in order to prevent vibration while the crews are welding.

The Pali Highway and Likelike Highway are available as alternative routes. Motorists are urged to drive with caution and allow extra time to reach your destination safely.
