HONOLULU – The Hawaii Department of Transportation (HDOT) advises Oahu motorists of a single lane closure on Kalanianaole Highway in the Kailua-bound direction between Hughes Road and Flamingo Street for shoulder pavement reconstruction work as part of the Kalanianaole Highway Improvements project.

The Kailua-bound lane will be closed nightly from Monday night, March 20, through Thursday night, March 23, during the hours of 7 p.m. to 5 a.m. This work will be ongoing, Monday through Thursday nights until the pavement reconstruction work is completed.

Traffic will be contraflowed through the remaining open lane with the assistance of Special Duty Police Officers/flaggers. When feasible, the Hawaii Kai-bound traffic will be detoured via Kumuhau Street and Humuniki Street.

Electronic message boards will be posted to warn motorists of the closure. Emergency vehicles and first responders have been notified of the roadwork and will be allowed through the work zone.

HDOT advises motorists to prepare for the closure by checking traffic apps, mapping the best route, and adding extra travel time to their commutes. Lane closure information is posted weekly to HDOT’s website at https://hidot.hawaii.gov/highways/roadwork/oahu/. Roadwork is weather permitting.
