HONOLULU – The Hawaii Department of Transportation (HDOT) notifies Oahu motorists that the northbound H-2 Freeway/Mililani/Wahiawa off-ramp (Exit 8B) from the eastbound H-1 Freeway will be closed nightly from 9 p.m. to 4 a.m. beginning Monday, May 8, 2017, through Friday, May 12, 2017, for tunnel lighting replacements.

Following this week’s schedule, the off-ramp will be closed weekly, Sunday night through Friday morning, to install new energy efficient LED lighting fixtures throughout the tunnel. This work is part of the HDOT and Johnson Controls statewide sustainability initiative to move Hawaii toward a more energy efficient future. Work is estimated to be completed by Friday, May 26, 2017.

Motorists traveling in the northbound direction are advised to use the Kamehameha Highway off-ramp (Exit 8C) as an alternate route. HDOT advises motorists to be prepared before getting on the road by checking traffic sites such as GoAkamai.org

Electronic message boards will be posted to warn motorists of the closures. Emergency vehicles, first responders, and TheBus have been notified of the roadwork and will be allowed through the work zone. Roadwork is weather permitting.
