24-hour closure on Halona Street continues for bridge replacement work

HONOLULU – The Hawaii Department of Transportation (HDOT) notifies the public that Halona Street will remain closed to all vehicular traffic in both directions between Kohou Street and Auld Lane, over a 24-hour period, for the remainder of the Halona Street Bridge project. Estimated completion date is scheduled for Sept. 2017, weather permitting.

A 24-hour closure is necessary as the bridge will not be drivable during the replacement of the Halona Street Bridge. Construction crews will be working on utility relocation, concrete pouring and asphalt paving.

Motorists seeking access to Houghtailing Street may use the westbound H-1 Freeway Houghtailing Street Off-Ramp (Exit 20B) or North School Street. Motorists seeking access to Kohou Street will be detoured onto North School Street and onto Houghtailing Street. Motorists seeking access to Kokea Street will be detoured through Auld Lane and Laa Lane. (See detour map below.)

Local traffic will be maintained during this time as well as pedestrian access across the canal via a temporary foot bridge adjacent to Halona Street Bridge.

Motorists are advised to use alternate routes if possible, expect delays, and follow all construction traffic controls. HDOT thanks the community for their patience and understanding as we work to update our bridge facilities.

The Halona Street Bridge project was developed by the Central Federal Lands Highway Division in cooperation with the Hawaii Department of Transportation.
