Nightly closure of the eastbound H-1 Freeway for the Kapolei Interchange Complex, Phase 2 project continues Sunday, Feb. 4

HONOLULU – The Hawaii Department of Transportation (HDOT) advises Oahu motorists that the eastbound H-1 Freeway will be closed between the Campbell Industrial Park/Barbers Point Harbor offramp (Exit 1A) and the Wakea Street onramp during the overnight hours of 9 p.m. to 4:30 a.m. on Sunday night, Feb. 4, 2018 through Friday morning, Feb. 9, 2018.

A full closure of the H-1 Freeway is necessary for crews to work on the Farrington Highway overpass as part of the Kapolei Interchange Complex, Phase 2 project.

Motorists traveling on the eastbound H-1 Freeway will be directed to Kalaeloa Boulevard via the Campbell Industrial Park/Barbers Point Harbor offramp (Exit 1A) and may continue on Kapolei Parkway, Kamokila Boulevard, and the Wakea Street onramp to return to the H-1 Freeway. See detour map below.

Electronic message boards will be posted to warn motorists of the closure. Special Duty Police Officers will be on-site to assist with traffic control. Emergency vehicles, first responders, and TheBus have been notified of the roadwork and will not be allowed through the work zone.

Other lane closures associated with this project are listed below.

  • Two right lanes closed on the H-1 Freeway in the westbound direction between the Kualakai Parkway underpass and the Makakilo Drive overpass on Sunday night, Feb. 4, 2018 through Friday morning, Feb. 9, 2018 from 9 p.m. to 5 a.m. for guardrail installations.
  • Left lane closure on the H-1 Freeway in both directions between the Wakea Street onramp and the Makakilo/Kapolei/Kalaeloa offramp (Exit 2) on Monday, Feb. 5, 2018 through Friday, Feb. 9, 2018 from 8:30 a.m. to 3 p.m. for work on the median.

HDOT advises motorists to allow for extra travel time and check traffic apps before heading to their destinations. Roadwork is weather permitting.
