HONOLULU – The Hawaii Department of Transportation (HDOT) advises Oahu motorists of nightly lane closures on the Pali Highway during the overnight hours of 8:30 p.m. to 5 a.m. on Sunday night, March 4, 2018 through Friday morning, March 9, 2018, for the Pali Highway Resurfacing project. Next week’s lane closures are as follows:

Honolulu-bound:

  • All lanes closed between Kamehameha Highway and Waokanaka Street. Motorists may use the Likelike Highway, H-3 Freeway, or Kalanianaole Highway as alternate routes.

Kailua-bound:

  • Left lane closed between Waokanaka Street and the Pali Tunnels.
  • Intermittent two-lane closure between Waokanaka Street and Nuuanu Pali Drive.

Crews will be performing median work, drainage improvements, and restriping. No crosswalks or sidewalks will be closed.

Electronic message boards will be posted to warn motorists of the full closure. Special Duty Police Officers will be on-site to assist with traffic control. Emergency vehicles, first responders, and TheBus will be notified of the roadwork and allowed through the closure.

The Sunday night through Friday morning closures will occur weekly with an estimated completion of March 2019. Lane closure information associated with this project will be available and updated weekly on the HDOT website at hidot.hawaii.gov in the roadwork section and released through our social media channels on Facebook and Twitter. Roadwork is weather permitting.

Motorists are encouraged to check traffic conditions and drive times, before getting behind the wheel, on any of the many resources available including www.GoAkamai.org

The Pali Highway improvement projects, the Pali Highway – Street Lighting from Vineyard Boulevard to Kamehameha Highway and Resurfacing from Waokanaka Street to Kamehameha Highway will replace and install additional street lights from Vineyard Boulevard to Kamehameha Highway and resurface Pali Highway from Waokanaka Street to Kamehameha Highway—including the parallel Waokanaka Street and the Pali Highway/Waokanaka Street intersection.
