HONOLULU – The Hawaii Department of Transportation (HDOT) informs Oahu motorists that repaving work begins on Whitmore Avenue on Monday, June 24, 2019, through Friday, June 28, 2019, from 8:30 a.m. to 3 p.m., daily. Crews will be working on the inbound lane between Center Street and Ihiihi Avenue, then switch to the outbound lane when finished. An alternating contraflow will be setup in the open lane with flagmen on each end directing traffic.

The Whitmore Avenue project will provide a newly paved road surface from Kamehameha Highway to the security gate at the Naval Computer and Telecommunications Area Master Station Pacific (NCTAMS PAC). Work on Whitmore Avenue has been split into three sections through the length of the project. Work will start at Center Street to Ihiihi Avenue, then move to Ihiihi Avenue to Saipan Drive, then end at Saipan Drive to just before Kamehameha Highway. Construction will occur on weekdays, from 8:30 a.m. to 3 p.m. and is expected to be completed by the end of July 2019.

Electronic message boards will be posted to notify motorists of the closures. Special Duty Police Officers and Flagmen will be on-site to assist with traffic control. For weekly roadwork updates, please view our HDOT website at https://hidot.hawaii.gov/highways/roadwork/.

HDOT advises motorists to allow for extra travel time to get to their destinations as traffic is expected to be heavier during closure hours. Roadwork is weather permitting.
