HONOLULU – The Hawaii Department of Transportation (HDOT) updates Oahu motorists on Zipper Lane operations for Friday, Oct. 25, 2019. The newer Zipmobile is working. The Zipper Lane is expected to be open for eastbound commuters with two or more people in their vehicle between 5:30 a.m. and 9 a.m. on the H-1 Freeway between the Manager’s Drive Overpass and the Keehi Interchange.

Crews were able to successfully apply a temporary fix to the hydraulic system and the Zipmobile passed tests to assess if it was capable of opening and closing the Zipper Lane. Crews will begin the Zipper Lane opening procedures at 11:30 p.m. to allow for extra time just in case. Normal procedure is to start opening at Manager’s Drive at 12:30 a.m.

Parts for the permanent fix will be received on Saturday, Oct. 26 and HDOT expects to have the permanent fix in place for the Monday morning commute.

Should the situation change, another update will be issued.
