Traveling public alerted to roadwork at OGG

KAHULUI – The Hawaii Department of Transportation (HDOT) advises the traveling public of temporary construction on Old Haleakala Highway/Kala Road at Kahului Airport (OGG) starting Monday, Jan. 27, 2020.

The lane closure will be in effect for paving and improvement work on Old Haleakala Highway/Kala Road between the Heliport intersection and the Airport Access Road (the cargo facility entrance) beginning Monday, Jan. 27.

Paving and shoulder improvement work begins Monday, Jan. 27 through Friday, Jan. 31 from 8 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. daily, weather permitting. No work is scheduled the week of Feb. 3, unless crews are impacted by weather the previous week.

Striping work will continue from Monday, Feb. 10 through Friday, Feb. 21 from 8 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. daily, weather permitting. No work is scheduled on weekends or the President’s Day holiday on Feb. 17.

Traffic will be maintained through a single lane contraflow during the work hours with flaggers on location to assist with traffic flow. Motorists are advised to expect delays and allow for extra travel time to get to the airport.
