LIHUE – The Hawaii Department of Transportation (HDOT) updates the traveling public that the single lane closure on Kuhio Highway (Route 560) at Mile Marker 1 (the hill approaching Hanalei Bridge) will continue through February. HDOT has submitted a request for extension to the Governor’s Emergency Proclamation due to inclement weather and equipment delays.

The single lane closure, with Hanalei-bound and Princeville-bound traffic alternating in the remaining open lane, will occur five days a week, between the hours of 7 a.m. and 5 p.m. Monday through Thursday and between the hours of 7 a.m. to 3 p.m. on Fridays.

All work is weather permitting. Should the scheduled work be canceled or modified, notice will go out via HDOT’s social media accounts and notification system. Those interested in receiving notice of scheduled lane closures and other public notices from HDOT can sign up at https://public.govdelivery.com/accounts/hidot/subscriber/new

HDOT recommends motorists plan for delays and check traffic conditions before they get on the road. Camera views of Kuhio Highway at Hanalei Hill can be viewed at https://goakamai.org/icx/pages/cameras.aspx by selecting ‘Kauai – Kuhio Hwy’ from the dropdown field.

HDOT thanks the traveling public for their continued patience and kokua as we work to make Kuhio Highway more resilient to future weather events.
