Single lane closure on Kamehameha Highway to move north to address additional 800-foot section.

HONOLULU – The Hawaii Department of Transportation (HDOT) informs the traveling public that the single lane closure on Kamehameha Highway for emergency shoreline repairs will continue between Pokiwai Place and Hauula Beach Homes Road.  Additional sections were identified to be repaired, bringing the total area addressed through the emergency repairs in Hauula to approximately 2,300-feet.

The northbound lane of Kamehameha Highway will be closed between Pokiwai Place and Hauula Beach Homes Road from 7 a.m. to 6:30 p.m., seven days a week, beginning Tuesday, Jan. 28, except Sunday, February 2. Work to repair this section is anticipated to be complete in approximately three weeks.

Travel in both directions is maintained by contraflow—alternating vehicles in the remaining open lane. Motorists are advised to expect delays and plan for additional travel time.

HDOT determined that this section needed emergency repairs through site visits during the emergency repairs of portions within the 1,500-foot stretch north of Pokiwai Bridge.  Repairs began Jan. 5 after 12-feet of shoulder fell into the ocean. HDOT continues to assess the surrounding coastal highway and may identify additional areas for emergency repairs.
