HONOLULU — The state Department of Transportation (DOT) advises Oahu motorists that the H-1 Freeway eastbound Pali Highway Off-Ramp (Exit 21A) and the Punchbowl Street Off-Ramp (Exit 21B) will be closed on Sunday, February 16, and Sunday, February 23, from 6 a.m. to 10 p.m., as part of the H-1 Freeway Rehabilitation project.  During these hours, the eastbound Pali Highway On-Ramp to the H-1 eastbound will also be closed.  Motorists are advised to use the following alternate routes:

  • Eastbound H-1 motorists are advised to use the previous Vineyard Boulevard Off-Ramp (Exit 20B) to Vineyard Boulevard as an alternate route.
  • Eastbound H-1 motorists can also use the following Kinau Street Off-Ramp (Exit 22) to Ward Avenue and South Beretania Street.
  • Pali Highway motorists wishing to access the H-1 eastbound are advised to proceed on Pali Highway, turn left onto South Vineyard Boulevard and use the next available H-1 on-ramp past Punchbowl Street.

Construction work in the area will involve heavy machinery and associated noise that will cease by 10 p.m.

The H-1 Rehabilitation project will upgrade the freeway sub-surface and asphalt to provide a longer-lasting, smooth riding surface, provide an additional lane in each direction, install upgraded lighting, improve drainage, and install glare screens along the median.
