Nightly closures of the H-1 Freeway scheduled for the Kapolei Interchange project on Sunday, Oct. 14, through Friday, Oct. 19

HONOLULU – The Hawaii Department of Transportation (HDOT) notifies Oahu motorists that the H-1 Freeway will be closed, one direction at a time, in the vicinity of the Kapolei Interchange on Sunday night, Oct. 14, 2018, through Friday morning, Oct. 19, 2018, nightly, for the Kapolei Interchange Complex, Phase 2 project. Lane closure details are as follows:

  • The H-1 Freeway will be closed in the westbound direction between Makakilo Drive overpass and the Campbell Industrial Park/Barbers Point Harbor offramp (Exit 1) on Sunday night, Oct. 14, 2018 through Thursday morning, Oct. 18, 2018, from 10 p.m. to 5 a.m., for the installation of precast concrete panels on the westbound shoulder.
  • The H-1 Freeway will be closed in the eastbound direction between the Campbell Industrial Park/Barbers Point Harbor offramp (Exit 1A) and the Wakea Street onramp, on Thursday night, Oct. 18, 2018, from 9 p.m. to 4:30 a.m., for the installation of a bridge abutment in the eastbound shoulder lane.

Motorists traveling in the westbound direction will be detoured to Makakilo Drive via the Makakilo/Kapolei/Kalaeloa offramp (Exit 2) and may continue on Farrington Highway/Kamokila Boulevard, Wakea Street, and the Farrington Highway onramp to return to the westbound H-1 Freeway. Eastbound motorists will be directed to Kalaeloa Boulevard via the Campbell Industrial Park/Barbers Point Harbor offramp (Exit 1A) and may continue on Kapolei Parkway, Kamokila Boulevard, and Wakea Street to return to the eastbound H-1 Freeway. Electronic message boards will be posted throughout the work area to warn motorists of the closures. Special Duty Police Officers will be on-site to assist with traffic control and safety procedures. Emergency vehicles, first responders, and TheBus have been notified of the roadwork and will not be allowed through the work zone.

In addition to the nightly full closures, there will be daily closures happening at the following times and locations.

  • Left lane closure on the H-1 Freeway in the westbound direction between the Kualakai Parkway underpass and the Makakilo Drive overpass on Monday, Oct. 15, 2018, through Friday, Oct. 19, 2018, from 8:30 a.m. to 3 p.m., for median barrier wall installations.
  • Left lane closure on the H-1 Freeway in the eastbound direction between the Wakea Street onramp and the Kualakai Parkway underpass on Monday, Oct. 15, 2018, through Friday, Oct. 19, 2018, from 8:30 a.m. to 3 p.m., for median barrier wall installations.

HDOT advises motorists to allow for extra travel time and to check traffic apps before heading to their destinations. Roadwork is weather permitting.
