HONOLULU — The Hawaii Department of Transportation (HDOT) is announcing the repair work to the Paumalu Stream Bridge on Oahu’s North Shore will require a 24/7 lane closure, which is scheduled to begin Wednesday, May 25, 2016 at 8 a.m. The Paumalu Stream Bridge on Kamehameha Highway is located between Paumalu Place and Ke Nui Road, near Sunset Beach.

No lane closures are scheduled Saturday or Sunday, May 21-22. The lane closure will resume Monday, May 23 and Tuesday, May 24 from 8 a.m. to 3 p.m. The 24/7 lane closure that begins May 25 is expected to remain in place through the end of July. The lane closures will alternate between the inbound and outbound lane depending on the construction schedule. The remaining lane will be contraflowed to maintain access over the bridge. Flaggers will be located on both sides of the bridge to ensure safe passage for vehicles and pedestrians. Emergency vehicles responding to a call will be given priority access.

HDOT is working to finish the repairs as quickly as possible and is trying to prevent a full closure of the 87-year-old bridge. The repair work is being expedited to avoid further damage to the structure. Motorists traveling through the area should expect delays and are urged to allow extra time to reach their destination. HDOT thanks the community for its patience as we make these necessary repairs.

The restriction prohibiting vehicles weighing more than 15 tons from crossing the bridge remains in place until further notice.

HDOT will continue to issue notifications of work on this bridge and will alert the public of lane closures through the HDOT roadwork website at: https://hidot.hawaii.gov/highways/roadwork/
