HONOLULU – The Hawaii Department of Transportation (HDOT) will be holding a public meeting to discuss a Farrington Highway Intersection Improvements project application for a Noise Variance Permit with the state Department of Health to perform construction work during overnight hours. If approved, the nighttime work is anticipated to alleviate construction-related traffic through Nanakuli during daytime hours.  The meeting is scheduled at the following location and time and public comments will be accepted.

Wednesday, Mar. 4, 2015
6 to 8 p.m.
Nanaikapono Elementary School
89-153 Mano Ave., Waianae

The meeting will be an open house format with a presentation, exhibits and a noise specialist available to answer public questions. For more information and to request special accessibility or communication needs, please contact HDOT at 587‐2160, by Friday, Feb. 27. TTY users may use TRS to contact HDOT at (808) 587-2210.

Project improvements will include roadway widening for the installation of a new auxiliary median turn lane, utility upgrades and a shared pedestrian and bicycle pathway between the Nanakuli Stream and Helelua Street. The auxiliary turn lane is expected to improve traffic by removing turning vehicles from the regular travel lanes, especially during morning rush-hours when additional vehicles turn mauka-bound towards Nanakuli High and Intermediate Schools.
