Notice is hereby given that the State of Hawaii Department of Transportation (HDOT) in cooperation with the Federal Highway Administration, proposed to design and install raised crosswalks and associated signage, including new signposts, across the State as pedestrian safety and traffic calming measures.
54 of the proposed 59 sites are at existing school crossings. The proposed raised crosswalks are generally anticipated to be installed at existing crosswalks within HDOT Right-of-Way.
Pursuant to Section 106 of the National Historical Preservation Act (NHPA), Native Hawaiian Organizations (NHOs) and Native Hawaiian descendants with ancestral, lineal or cultural ties to, cultural and historic property knowledge of and/or concerns for, and cultural or religious attachment to the proposed project areas are requested to contact HDOT. Other individuals and organizations with demonstrated legal, economic or historic preservation interest in the undertaking are asked to contact HDOT and share information you may have on historical and cultural sites that you may have knowledge of within the Area of Potential Effects (APE).
