The state Department of Transportation, Airports Division, Maui District, will be conducting a triennial emergency response exercise on Wednesday, October 24, from 9:30 a.m. to 11 a.m. The exercise is a Federal Aviation Administration certification requirement to test airfield disaster and response and will simulate an airliner crash at the airport. All flight operations will continue as normal during the exercise.
Lanai Airport held a blessing ceremony today with Senator Daniel K. Inouye for the new Aircraft Rescue and Fire Fighting station (ARFF). The $6.4 million project brings Lanai Airport into compliance with Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) regulations and provides a modern aircraft rescue and firefighting facility.
As the result of the renewal of the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA), Hawaii's airports will receive an additional $6 million annually. A critical amendment was authored by Congresswoman Mazie Hirono that requires the FAA to take into account interisland passengers when calculating Hawaii’s annual share of Airport Improvement Program grants.
The DOT advises Maui motorists that a section of Kala Road will be permanently closed beginning February 8. Motorists are advised to use Haleakala Highway at the Hana Highway intersection to access Kala Road, Lelepio Place, Eena Street, Kuhea Street and Kahului Airport facilities.
Parking fees will increase from $90 to $160 on March 1st for users of Kahului and Kapalua Airports on Maui, Lihue Airport on Kauai, and the Hilo and Kona International Airports on the Big Island.
