Hilo International Airport To Close Runway 8-26 On Weeknights For Repaving Work
Posted on Jun 19, 2015 in Main, NewsHILO — The state Department of Transportation advises Hilo and Keaukaha residents of an expected increase in aircraft traffic over these areas due to airfield maintenance work at the Hilo International Airport.
Runway 8-26 will be closed for repaving work beginning Tuesday night, June 23, through Friday morning, July 31, on Sunday nights through Friday mornings, from 10 p.m. to 5 a.m., nightly. Construction will repave the middle section of Runway 8-26 to provide a safe surface for airplane arrival and departures. Work is weather permitting.
During this time, flight patterns will be modified to use Runway 3-21, resulting in increased air traffic over Hilo Town and the Keaukaha community.
The HDOT appreciates residents’ patience and understanding as we work to improve the conditions of the Hilo International Airport runways.
