Parking rate increases support HDOT’s continuing efforts to invest in the modernization and maintenance of the airport’s parking facilities to maximize parking for the public and ensure safety. Planned projects include Terminal 2 Parking Structure Improvements that will entail full rehabilitation of the concrete surface on the top level of the structure, concrete spall repairs, and upgrades to the draining and electrical systems. At the International Parking Garage, crews have been conducting water testing to check for leaks and will begin spall repair. In addition, the department is in the process of reviewing qualification proposals to build a new parking structure off Ualena Street for public and airport employee parking.
HDOT also is developing a website to display real-time parking space availability at the HNL parking garages that will help drivers plan before heading to the airport. The parking website is expected to be unveiled later this year. In 2022, HDOT installed LED display signs that show the number of available stalls at all three of HNL’s parking structures. The parking capacity at HNL is 5,338 spaces.
HNL also has two free cell phone waiting lots for those picking up passengers. The Diamond Head cell phone waiting area is located on Aolele Street, near the intersection with Lagoon Drive. The ‘Ewa cell phone waiting area is located on Service Road A near the Airport Post Office at the intersection of Nimitz Highway and Aolele Street.
