Westbound H-1 Freeway airport offramp (Exit 16) to close for sign installation work at the Daniel K. Inouye International Airport
Posted on Jul 24, 2018 in Main, NewsHONOLULU – The Hawaii Department of Transportation (HDOT) Airports Division advises Oahu motorists that the Airport offramp (Exit 16) from the westbound H-1 Freeway will be closed from 11:30 p.m. on Thursday night, Aug. 2, 2018 through 3:30 a.m. on Friday morning, Aug. 3, 2018, to install the new overhead sign structure at the Daniel K. Inouye International Airport.
The sign replacement project at the Daniel K. Inouye International Airport (HNL) is underway and will replace approximately 3,100 indoor and outdoor signs including airport signage along the roadways, within HNL terminals, and parking structure signs. The work to replace the signs involves the removal, retrofit or replacement of overhead roadway sign structures; installation of ground mounted roadway signs and supports; and installation of signs and supports in the parking structures and terminals. Electrical work, traffic control, ceiling patching, and other associated improvements are also included. The overall project is anticipated to be finished in Summer 2019. HDOT will continue to notify the public of major closures as needed.
During closure hours, message boards will be placed throughout the area, including the Moanalua Freeway offramp to the Airport Viaduct, Nimitz Highway, Dillingham Boulevard and Middle Street, to alert motorists of the lane closure and detour. Westbound motorists will be advised to take Nimitz Highway as an alternate route. If motorists continue on the H-1 Freeway, they will be detoured to the Arizona Memorial/Stadium offramp (Exit 15A), turn right at Radford Drive, turn right at Center Drive, then get back on the eastbound H-1 Freeway to the Daniel K. Inouye International Airport. For a detour map click here. Motorists are advised to allow for extra travel time to get to their destination.
