LIHUE – The Hawaii Department of Transportation (HDOT) notifies the public that night work is canceled on Kuhio Highway at Waikoko Bridge, mile marker 4.2, between Waikoko and Wainiha, on Sept. 18-19 and Sept. 23-26, by the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Services for the Shearwater bird fledgling season.

HDOT will be reviewing options to work during the day around fledgling season, which occurs from September to December each year. A closure of Waikoko bridge is needed for bridge deck overlay work and below deck spall repairs to assure the integrity of the bridge.

Once a schedule is approved, we will notify the public via HDOT’s social media accounts and notification system. Those interested in receiving notice of scheduled lane closures and other public notices from HDOT can sign up at https://public.govdelivery.com/accounts/hidot/subscriber/new
