HONOLULU – The Hawai‘i Department of Transportation (HDOT) is reminding motorists of the full closure of the H-1 Freeway between the Middle Street merge and the Likelike Highway off-ramp overnight on Saturday, June 6.
The H-1 Pearl City and Waimalu Viaduct project also has scheduled work this weekend. They will both work nighttime hours as noted below.
On the evening of Saturday, June 6 the H-1 Pearl City and Waimalu Viaduct Repairs will close three lanes between the Kaamilo Overpass and the H-1/H-2 Merge from 7 p.m. to 8 a.m. the next day to refresh temporary striping over the repaved areas. This closure will alternate between the three left or right lanes.
From 8 p.m. on Saturday, June 6, to 8 a.m. the next day, the Interstate Route H-1 Eastbound Improvements, Ola Lane Overpass to Likelike Highway off-ramp project will fully close the H-1 Freeway between the Middle Street merge and the Likelike Highway off-ramp, to allow crews to work on overhead electrical line installation spanning the freeway. The following ramps will be closed during this work:
- King Street on-ramp to the eastbound H-1 Freeway
- Airport Viaduct on-ramp to the eastbound H-1 Freeway
- Likelike Highway on-ramp to the westbound H-1 Freeway
- Middle Street off-ramp from the westbound H-1 Freeway
Eastbound motorists will be detoured via Middle Street to parallel roadways like North King Street, Dillingham Boulevard or North School Street, to rejoin the eastbound H-1 Freeway after the Likelike Highway on-ramp.
Westbound motorists will be detoured via the Likelike Highway off-ramp to parallel roadways like Dillingham Boulevard or North School Street to rejoin the westbound H-1 Freeway at Middle Street. Please see detour map above for details.
This work is in preparation for the deployment of the temporary pedestrian bridge to begin the demolition and reconstruction of the Gulick Avenue overpass. Installation of the temporary bridge will require another full closure of the H-1 Freeway, which is currently scheduled for the evening of Saturday, July 11 from 8 p.m. to 8 a.m. the following day, weather permitting.
Contingency dates for the H-1 Eastbound Improvements have been set for: Saturday, July 18, Saturday, July 25, and Saturday, Aug. 1 if crews experience any delays due to weather, construction delays, etc. For more information, please view the project website at https://h1widening.com/
