Westbound H-1 Freeway closed for lighting replacement work on Sunday night, Dec. 17

HONOLULU – The Hawaii Department of Transportation (HDOT) advises Oahu motorists that the H-1 Freeway will be closed in the westbound direction between the Vineyard Boulevard offramp (Exit 22) and the Vineyard Boulevard/Halona Street onramp on Sunday night, Dec. 17, 2017 through Monday morning, Dec. 18, 2017 from 10 p.m. to 4:30 a.m., for overhead lighting replacement work.

Westbound H-1 Freeway traffic will be detoured around the closure via the Vineyard Boulevard offramp (Exit 22) and may reenter the freeway at the Vineyard Boulevard/Halona Street onramp. (See detour map below.)

During closure hours, the North School Street onramp, Punchbowl Street onramp and Punchbowl Street tunnel will be closed. Motorists wanting to take the Pali Highway to Kailua will be allowed access from Vineyard Boulevard. Motorists taking the westbound Lunalilo Street onramp will be detoured to Vineyard Boulevard or may stay on Lunalilo Street to South School Street.

HDOT advises motorists to plan ahead and use alternate routes like Vineyard Boulevard and Nimitz Highway.

Electronic message boards have been posted to notify motorists of the closures. Special Duty Police Officers will be on site to assist with safety and traffic procedures. Emergency vehicles, first responders, and TheBus have been notified of the roadwork and will be allowed through the work zone. Roadwork is weather permitting.
