Closures scheduled for the Kapolei Interchange project for the weeks starting on March 1 and March 8

HONOLULU – The Hawaii Department of Transportation (HDOT) informs Oahu motorists of closures scheduled on the H-1 Freeway, Farrington Highway, and Kalaeoloa Boulevard for the weeks starting on March 1, 2020 and March 8, 2020, for the Kapolei Interchange project.

Motorists should be aware that Farrington Highway will be closed in both directions between Wakea Street and Kalaeloa Boulevard, at the section above the H-1 Freeway, for reinforcement work on the Farrington Highway Bridge. The closure will be in place 24-hours a day, seven days a week, and will continue through the week of March 1, 2020 and end on Saturday March 7, 2020, when Farrington Highway will reopen.

Road Closed Closure Details Detour Route
H-1 Freeway

1)    Westbound direction closed between Makakilo/Kapolei/Kalaeloa off (Exit 2) and Kalaeloa Blvd overpass on Sunday nights through Friday mornings, from 10 p.m. to 5 a.m., for sign installations.

2)    Westbound closures will be extended to the Kapolei/Ewa offramp (Exit 3) through Makakilo Dr on Sunday nights through Friday mornings, from 10:30 p.m. to 4 a.m. When work is finished at 4 a.m., closure #1 will remain in place until 5 a.m.

3)    (Will only occur if the westbound H-1 Fwy is open) Eastbound direction closed between the Campbell Industrial Park/Barbers Point Harbor offramp (Exit 1A) and the Wakea Street onramp on Monday nights through Friday mornings, from 9 p.m. to 4:30 a.m., for punch list items.

4)    Campbell Industrial Park/Barbers Point Harbor off (Exit 1A) will be closed from the eastbound H-1 Fwy on Monday nights through Friday mornings, from 10 p.m. to 4 a.m. for paving work.

1)    Motorists will be detoured to Makakilo Dr via the Makakilo/Kapolei/Kalaeloa off (Exit 2). For a detour map, see below.

2)    Westbound motorists will be detoured to Kualakai Parkway via the Kapolei/Ewa off (Exit 3). For a detour map, see below.

3)    Motorists will be detoured to Kalaeloa Blvd via the Campbell Industrial Park/Barbers Point Harbor off (Exit 1A). For a detour map, see below.

4)    Motorists will be detoured to the Wakea St offramp. For a detour map, see below.

Farrington Highway 1)    Both directions closed between Wakea St and Kalaeloa Blvd, at the section above the H-1 Fwy, 24 hours a day, seven days a week, ending on Sat. March 7.

1)    Westbound motorists traveling from Kapolei will be directed to the new Wakea Street overpass. Eastbound motorists will be directed to Kapolei Pkwy. For a detour map, see below.

Kalaeloa Boulevard 1)    Northbound direction closed between Kapolei Pkwy and Farrington Hwy on Sunday nights through Friday mornings, from 8 p.m. to 4:30 a.m., for paving work. 1)    Motorists will be detoured to Kapolei Parkway. For a detour map, see below.

HDOT advises motorists to allow for extra travel time to get to their destinations. Electronic message boards will be in place to notify motorists of the closures and detours. Special Duty Police Officers will be on-site to assist with traffic control and safety procedures. Emergency vehicles, first responders, and TheBus have been notified of the full closure and will not be allowed through the work zone. All roadwork is weather permitting.

During the 10:00 PM to 5:00 AM closure, H1 Westbound traffic will be detoured. Motorists will be directed south on Makakilo Drive, west on Kamokila Boulevard, north on Wakea Street, and west on Farrington Highway to re-enter the H1 Westbound freeway.

During the 10:30 PM to 4:00 AM closure, H1 Westbound traffic will be detoured. Motorists will exit the Queen Liliuokalani Freeway, travel south on Kualakai Parkway, west on Farrington Highway, and north on Wakea Street to re-enter the H1 Westbound freeway.

During the 9:00 PM to 4:30 AM closure, H1 Eastbound traffic will be detoured. Motorists will exit south onto Kalaeloa Boulevard, travel east on Kapolei Parkway, north on Kamokila Boulevard, and north on Wakea Street to re-enter the H1 Eastbound freeway.During the 10:00 PM to 4:00 AM closure of H1 Ramp 1A, traffic will be detoured. Motorists will travel south on Kalaeloa Boulevard, east on Kapolei Parkway, north on Kamokila Boulevard, and north on Wakea Street to access Farrington Highway and the freeway.

The Farrington Bridge will be fully closed in both directions. Westbound Farrington Highway traffic will be detoured over the new Wakea Street overpass. Eastbound traffic will be detoured south on Kalaeloa Boulevard, east on Kapolei Parkway, north on Kamokila Boulevard, and north on Wakea Street.

"During the 8:00 PM to 4:30 AM closure of Kalaeloa Boulevard Northbound, traffic will be detoured. Motorists will travel east on Kapolei Parkway, north on Kamokila Boulevard, north on Wakea Street, and west on Farrington Highway to return to Kalaeloa Boulevard.
