H-201 Moanalua Freeway closures begin Monday night, May 1, for message board removal
Posted on Apr 27, 2017 in Main, NewsHONOLULU – The Hawaii Department of Transportation (HDOT) advises Oahu motorists of closures on the H-201 Moanalua Freeway between the Middle Street Overpass and the Puuloa Road/Tripler Hospital offramp (Exit 3).
Monday night, May 1, 2017
All lanes of the H-201 Moanalua Freeway will be closed in the westbound direction from 10:30 p.m. to 4:30 a.m. to remove the existing variable message board sign in the vicinity of the Puuloa Road/Tripler Hospital offramp (Exit 3). The roadway will reopen earlier if work is completed before 4:30 a.m.
Westbound motorists may remain on the H-1 Freeway towards the airport or will be detoured at the Middle Street offramp (Exit 19A). Motorists accessing the Moanalua or Halawa areas may exit at Middle Street and continue straight on Kaua Street to Puuloa Road. The westbound Puuloa Road onramp will remain open during the closure hours.
Tuesday night, May 2, 2017, through Friday morning, May 5, 2017
The left lane will be closed on the H-201 Moanalua Freeway in both directions from 10:30 p.m. to 4:30 a.m., nightly. Crews will be installing temporary portable concrete barriers in the median.
HDOT advises motorists to prepare for the closures by checking traffic sites like GoAkamai.org, mapping the best route, and adding extra travel time to their commutes.
Electronic message boards will be posted to warn motorists of the closures. Special Duty Police Officers will be on-site to assist with traffic control. Emergency vehicles, first responders, and TheBus have been notified of the roadwork and will be allowed through Monday night’s closure. Roadwork is weather permitting.
