Nightly closures for the Kapolei Interchange project remains the same for the week starting on April 19

HONOLULU – The Hawaii Department of Transportation (HDOT) advises Oahu motorists that the nightly closures for the Kapolei Interchange project will continue on the same schedule for next week starting on Sunday April 19, 2020.

Motorists are notified that working hours have been extended to start at 8 p.m. to maximize construction during this time. HDOT will continue posting weekly updates on the roadwork schedule as it is subject to change due to Covid-19. For closure information and detour routes, please see below.

Road Closed Closure Details Detour Route
H-1 Freeway 1) Westbound direction closed between Makakilo/Kapolei/Kalaeloa off (Exit 2) and Kalaeloa Blvd overpass on Sunday night through Friday morning, from 8 p.m. to 5 a.m., for signage work.

 

2) Two right lanes closed in the westbound direction between the Kapolei/Ewa offramp (Exit 3) through Makakilo Dr on Sunday night through Friday morning, from 8 p.m. to 5 a.m., for signage work. All lanes will be closed as needed and traffic will be detoured.

 

3) (Will only occur if the westbound H-1 Fwy is open) Eastbound direction closed between the Campbell Industrial Park/Barbers Point Harbor offramp (Exit 1A) and the Wakea Street onramp on Monday night through Friday morning, from 8 p.m. to 4:30 a.m., for punch list items.

 

4) Campbell Industrial Park/Barbers Point Harbor off (Exit 1A) will be closed from the eastbound H-1 Fwy on Monday night through Friday morning, from 8 p.m. to 4 a.m. for paving work.

 1) Motorists will be detoured to Makakilo Dr via the Makakilo/Kapolei/Kalaeloa off (Exit 2). For a detour map, click here (link to map).

 

2) Westbound motorists will be detoured to Kualakai Parkway via the Kapolei/Ewa off (Exit 3). For a detour map, click here (link to map).

 

 

3) Motorists will be detoured to Kalaeloa Blvd via the Campbell Industrial Park/Barbers Point Harbor off (Exit 1A). For a detour map, click here (link to map).

Kalaeloa Boulevard 1) Northbound direction closed between Kapolei Pkwy and Farrington Hwy on Sunday night through Friday morning, from 8 p.m. to 4:30 a.m., for paving work. 1) Motorists will be detoured to Kapolei Parkway. For a detour map, click here (link to map).
Farrington Highway  1) Lane closure on Farrington Hwy in both directions between Laaloa Street and Waiomea Street on Monday night through Friday morning, from 8 p.m. to 5 a.m., for guardrail work.

 

2) Lane closure on Farrington Hwy in the eastbound direction between Laaloa Street and Kalaeloa Boulevard overpass on Monday night through Friday morning, from 8 p.m. to 4:30 a.m., for guardrail work.

HDOT advises motorists to allow for extra travel time to get to their destinations. Electronic message boards will be in place to notify motorists of the closures and detours. Special Duty Police Officers will be on-site to assist with traffic control and safety procedures. Emergency vehicles, first responders, and TheBus have been notified of the full closure and will not be allowed through the work zone. All roadwork is weather permitting.

The H-1 Westbound Traffic Detour at the Makakilo Drive exit is active nightly from 8:00 PM to 5:00 AM. During these hours, the H-1 westbound lanes are completely closed from the Makakilo Drive overpass to just west of Wakea Street, and the westbound on-ramp and off-ramp at Wakea Street and Farrington Highway are also closed. Westbound drivers on the H-1 Freeway must take the Makakilo Drive exit, turn left (south) onto Makakilo Drive to cross over the freeway, and then turn right (west) onto Kamokila Boulevard. Drivers should continue west on Kamokila Boulevard, turn right (north) onto Wakea Street, and then turn left (west) onto Farrington Highway to bypass the closed freeway section and re-enter H-1 Westbound toward Waianae.The H-1 Westbound Freeway Traffic Detour starting at the Kualakaʻi Parkway exit is active nightly from 8:00 PM to 4:00 AM while the westbound lanes of the Queen Liliuokalani Freeway (H-1) are closed from Kualakaʻi Parkway to the Farrington Highway and Wakea Street interchange. To detour, westbound drivers must exit the H-1 Freeway onto Kualakaʻi Parkway, turn left (south) onto the parkway, and then make a quick right (west) onto Farrington Highway. Drivers can then follow Farrington Highway westbound as it runs parallel to the closed freeway and re-enter the H-1 Westbound past Wakea Street toward Waianae. The H-1 Eastbound Traffic Detour is active nightly from 8:00 PM to 4:30 AM because the H-1 Eastbound lanes are closed from the Kalaeloa Boulevard interchange to the Wakea Street overpass, along with the on-ramp from Kalaeloa Boulevard to H-1 Eastbound. To follow the detour, eastbound drivers must exit the H-1 Freeway onto Kalaeloa Boulevard, turn right (south) onto Kalaeloa Boulevard, and then turn left (east) onto Kapolei Parkway. From Kapolei Parkway, drivers should turn left (north) onto Kamokila Boulevard and then turn right (east) onto Wakea Street to bypass the closed section of the freeway and access the H-1 Eastbound on-ramp.

The H-1 Freeway Eastbound Ramp 1A Detour is active nightly from 8:00 PM to 4:00 AM due to the closure of the loop on-ramp that normally carries southbound traffic from Kalaeloa Boulevard onto H-1 Eastbound toward Honolulu. Southbound drivers on Kalaeloa Boulevard wanting to head toward Honolulu must bypass the closed loop ramp and continue south on Kalaeloa Boulevard. Drivers should then turn left (east) onto Kapolei Parkway, turn left (north) onto Kamokila Boulevard, and finally turn right (east) onto Wakea Street, where they can safely access the H-1 Eastbound on-ramp. The Kalaeloa Boulevard Northbound Traffic Detour is active nightly from 8:00 PM to 4:30 AM due to the closure of the northbound lanes of Kalaeloa Boulevard, starting just north of the Kapolei Parkway intersection up to Farrington Highway and the H-1 Freeway entrance. To bypass this closure, northbound drivers must turn right (eastbound) onto Kapolei Parkway, proceed to Kamokila Boulevard, and turn left (northeast). From Kamokila Boulevard, drivers should turn left (northwest) onto Wakea Street and follow Wakea Street to reach Farrington Highway or to access the H-1 Freeway.###
