Nighttime lane closures on eastbound H-1 Freeway, Kapiolani Boulevard, and Kapahulu Avenue begin Sunday, March 13

HONOLULU – The Hawaii Department of Transportation (HDOT) alerts the public that there will be nighttime lane closures on various roadways in the vicinity of Kaimuki starting Sunday night, March 13, 2016 through Wednesday night, March 16, 2016 from 9 p.m. to 4:30 a.m., nightly. The closures are required for crews to complete pavement marking installations. Roadwork is weather permitting. The dates and locations of the closures are as follows:

Sunday night, March 13, 2016 from 9 p.m. to 4:30 a.m.

  • Right lane closure on the H-1 Freeway in the eastbound direction between the University Avenue Off-Ramp (Exit 24B) and the King Street Off-Ramp (Exit 25A).
  • Closure of the King Street Off-Ramp (Exit 25A) from the eastbound H-1 Freeway.
  • Closure of the South King Street/Kapiolani Boulevard/Harding Avenue Intersection.
    • Motorists traveling eastbound on South King Street will be required to turn right at Kapiolani Boulevard.
    • Motorists traveling westbound on Harding Avenue will be detoured at Kapahulu Avenue.
    • Motorists traveling eastbound on Kapiolani Boulevard will be detoured at Kaimuki Avenue.
    • Motorists traveling westbound on Waialae Avenue will be required to turn right at Old Waialae Avenue.
    • Motorists traveling northbound on Kapahulu Avenue may go straight through the intersection of Old Waialae Avenue or turn right onto Waialae Avenue. The left turn to Kapiolani Boulevard will be prohibited.

Monday night, March 14, 2016 from 9 p.m. to 4:30 a.m.

  • Closure of Kapiolani Boulevard in the westbound direction between Kapahulu Avenue and Harding Avenue.
    • Motorists traveling westbound on Waialae Avenue will be required to turn right at Old Waialae Avenue.
    • Motorists traveling northbound on Kapahulu Avenue may go straight through the intersection of Old Waialae Avenue or turn right onto Waialae Avenue. The left turn to Kapiolani Boulevard will be prohibited.

Tuesday night, March 15, 2016 from 9 p.m. to 4:30 a.m.

  • Closure of Kapiolani Boulevard in the eastbound direction between Kaimuki Avenue and Kapahulu Avenue.
    • Motorists traveling eastbound on Kapiolani Boulevard will be detoured to Kaimuki Avenue.
    • Motorists traveling westbound on Harding Avenue may only turn left to westbound Kapiolani Boulevard.
    • Motorists traveling eastbound on South King Street may go straight through the intersection of Harding Avenue or make a right turn to Kapiolani Boulevard. The left turn to Kapiolani Boulevard will be prohibited.

Wednesday night, March 16, 2016 from 9 p.m. to 4:30 a.m.

  • Two right lanes closed on Kapahulu Avenue in the northbound direction between Harding Avenue and Kapiolani Boulevard.
    • The right turn from Kapahulu Avenue to Waialae Avenue will be closed, but motorists will be able to turn right onto Waialae Avenue at the Kapiolani Boulevard Intersection.
  • Two right lanes closed on Waialae Avenue in the westbound direction at the Old Waialae Avenue Intersection.
    • Motorists will be able to turn right onto Old Waialae Avenue.

Electronic message boards will be posted at key decision points to inform motorists of the closures. Emergency vehicles will be escorted through the work site. Special duty police officers will be on site to assist with traffic flow.
