Temporary 34-ton weight restriction for Hanapepe River Bridge on Kaumualii Highway begins Thursday, Jan. 25
Posted on Jan 18, 2018 in Main, NewsLIHUE – The Hawaii Department of Transportation (HDOT) advises Kauai motorists and commercial haulers of a weight limit reduction for the Hanapepe River Bridge on Kaumualii Highway (Route 50) in Hanapepe Town. Beginning Thursday, Jan. 25, 2018 the weight limit will be set at 34 tons. Signage will be installed to inform motorists of the change.
The bridge will remain open for all vehicles weighing up to 34 tons. Haulers should reduce their vehicle’s carrying weight accordingly. For reference, a firetruck that is fully loaded with equipment and personnel would weigh approximately 25 tons.
A two-lane temporary bypass bridge across Hanapepe River is in construction and is anticipated to be completed by March 2018. This temporary bridge will not have any weight restrictions up to the State’s legal load of 44 tons. Bridge work is weather permitting.
The Hanapepe River Bridge project was developed by the Central Federal Lands Federal Highway Administration in cooperation with the Hawaii Department of Transportation.
