WAIKŌLOA, Hawai‘i – The Hawaiʻi Department of Transportation (HDOT) will be hosting an open house for the proposed Daniel K. Inouye Highway Extension Project. The open house will allow participants to share their thoughts on the proposed project and learn about the environmental review process and project timeline. Details for the open house are:

Date:            Wednesday, May 20, 2026

Time:            6 p.m. to 8 p.m.

Where:          Waikōloa Elementary and Middle School Cafeteria, 68-1730 Hoʻoko Street, Waikōloa

Watch it later:          The presentation will be shared on https://www.naleo.tv/ and posted to the project website following the open house.

HDOT is restarting the project to extend the Daniel K. Inouye Highway (State Route [SR] 200, formerly known as Saddle Road) from its current western terminus at Māmalahoa Highway to the Queen Kaʻahumanu Highway. To restart the project, HDOT must prepare updated Environmental Impact Statements (EISs) compliant with the National Environmental Policy Act (NEPA) and Hawaiʻi Environmental Policy Act (HEPA). The updated environmental analyses will build upon and update the information published in the 2017 Draft EIS.

To request language interpretation, an auxiliary aid, or special services, (e.g., sign language interpreter, materials in alternate format), please contact the HDOT Public Affairs Office (808-587-2160 or [email protected]) prior to the meeting date.
