Public may experience delays on Nimitz Highway/Ala Moana Boulevard as passengers leave the ship on the morning of Thursday, May 2.

HONOLULU – The Hawaii Department of Transportation (HDOT) alerts the public of anticipated increased activity on Nimitz Highway/Ala Moana Boulevard near Pier 2 (vicinity of Punchbowl/South Streets) as the Ovation of the Seas makes its first visit to Honolulu Harbor. The Ovation of the Seas will be the largest cruise vessel to make a call in Honolulu. Roughly 5,000 passengers are expected to leave the vessel on Thursday, May 2, 2019 between the hours of 6:30 a.m. to 11 a.m.

HDOT Harbors Division is facilitating ground transportation within Harbor property as the passengers leave the cruise ship terminal but cautions the public to expect traffic delays in the area. The 5,000 passengers aboard the Ovation is double what Honolulu Harbor typically sees from other cruise vessels visiting Honolulu.

The Ovation is expected to remain in port between May 1 and 3 and will be taking on passengers on May 2. Traffic impacts may be experienced as passengers board the vessel but are not expected to be as significant as those on the morning of May 2.

HDOT recommends those needing to travel on Nimitz Highway/Ala Moana Boulevard on May 2 check GoAkamai or the travel app of their choice prior to getting on the road.
