Kalanianaole Highway near Sandy Beach closed Friday nights in May 2016 for safety improvements
Posted on May 4, 2016 in Highways News, Main, NewsHONOLULU – The Hawaii Department of Transportation (HDOT) notifies Oahu motorists that Kalanianaole Highway will be closed in both directions between Hanauma Bay Road and Sandy Beach from 9:30 p.m. to 3 a.m. every Friday throughout the month of May.
The dates of the closures are: May 6; May 13; May 20; and, May 27, 2016. The area will undergo lane restriping and sign and utility replacements. Motorists traveling on Kalanianaole Highway are advised to take Lunalilo Home Road, Hawaii Kai Drive and Kealahou Street as an alternate route around the construction zone.
Electronic message boards have been posted near Hanauma Bay and Sandy Beach to inform motorists of the closure. Emergency vehicles and TheBus have been notified and will be allowed through the construction zone. Special duty police officers will be on site to assist with escorting emergency vehicles through the closure.
HDOT advises motorists to plan ahead and allow for extra travel time to get to their destinations. All roadwork is weather permitting.
