Nightly closure of westbound Farrington Highway in Nanakuli for resurfacing work begins March 18
Posted on Mar 16, 2018 in Highways News, Main, NewsHONOLULU – The Hawaii Department of Transportation (HDOT) is proud to announce the start of the Farrington Highway Resurfacing – Kahe Power Plant to Hakimo Road project which includes a resurfacing of the highway, replacement of striping and pavement markers, and a relocation and consolidation of bus stops.
All westbound lanes will be closed on Farrington Highway between the Aliinui Drive overpass and Piliokahi Avenue nightly from 9 p.m. to 4 a.m. The overnight closures are scheduled to begin Sunday night, March 18, 2018, and end Friday morning, March 23, 2018.
Westbound motorists will be contraflowed in an eastbound lane during the closure hours. Electronic message boards will be posted to notify motorists of the closures. Special Duty Police Officers will be on-site to assist with traffic control.
Work is tentatively planned in the westbound direction before moving to the eastbound lanes. Lane closures for paving work are expected to occur until May 2018. Weekly roadwork updates will be posted on the HDOT website at https://hidot.hawaii.gov/highways/roadwork/.
This project is the second in a series of three resurfacing projects to improve safety along Farrington Highway on the Leeward Coast. The Farrington Highway Resurfacing, vicinity of Kili Drive to Satellite Tracking Station Road is in the construction phase and is anticipated to be completed in June 2018. The Farrington Highway Resurfacing, Hakimo Road to Kili Drive is slated to begin construction in September 2018. For more information and to view maps of the improvements, please click here.
HDOT advises motorists to allow for extra travel time and check traffic apps before heading to their destinations. Roadwork is weather permitting.
