Public Informational Meeting Scheduled For H-1 Freeway Rehabilitation Project

HONOLULU – The state Department of Transportation (DOT) invites the public and all interested parties to a public information meeting regarding the proposed rehabilitation of the H-1 Freeway, from Middle Street to the vicinity of Ward Avenue, on Wednesday, February 6, at 6 p.m., at the Farrington High School Cafeteria, 1564 North King Street, Honolulu, Hawaii. Parking and access to cafeteria is from Kalihi Street.

The purpose of this meeting is to inform the community of this project that will include major pavement rehabilitation, permanent restriping to add additional fourth through-lanes in both directions, and new street lighting. The proposed construction start schedule is summer of 2013 and is expected to continue for approximately 12 to 18 months.

The meeting will include a presentation and an opportunity to ask DOT representatives questions regarding the proposed project. Comments will be sought for the Environmental Assessment, for the National Historic Preservation Act Section 106 which requires consultation with Native Hawaiian Organizations and other stakeholders, and the night work noise variance.
