H-1 Freeway Rehabilitation Project Update
Posted on Oct 11, 2013 in Highways News, NewsHONOLULU – The state Department of Transportation (DOT) advises Oahu motorists to be aware of lane closures and traffic pattern modifications on the H-1 Freeway between Likelike Highway and the vicinity of Ward Avenue. Beginning Sunday night, October 13, two lanes of traffic will be closed at 9 p.m. in both directions. This will leave one through-lane open from 9 p.m. to 4:30 a.m. on Sunday nights through Friday mornings. The DOT advises drivers in both directions to use Vineyard Boulevard as an alternate route. For more information, check the project website at H1rehab.com or #H1rehab.
Motorists should also remember to drive slowly through the work zone as lane restriping may take place overnight, resulting in lane and ramp modifications. Over the past few weeks changes have been made in the eastbound direction. Restriping, lane and ramp modifications are currently being done in the westbound direction.
These temporary changes during construction allow three through-lanes of traffic to remain open during the day. It also allows work to be conducted during daytime working hours as well as at night. This is being done to expedite the year-long project that will upgrade the freeway asphalt to provide a smooth riding surface, install upgraded lighting, improve drainage, and install glare screens along the median.
The DOT thanks drivers for their patience as the state works to improve Hawaii’s aging infrastructure.
