Kalanianaole Highway Night Closures For Guardrail Installations Near Blowhole
Posted on Apr 23, 2014 in Highways News, NewsHONOLULU – The Hawaii Department of Transportation (HDOT) advises Oahu motorists that a portion of Kalanianaole Highway will be closed nightly, Sunday nights through Friday mornings from 9 p.m. until 4 a.m., from Sunday, April 27, through Friday morning, May 16, between Hanauma Bay and Sandy Beach. Traffic will be detoured at Lunalilo Home Road and Kealahou Street as in past closures in the area.
This project continues previous guardrail work that was done in August. The contractor will replace approximately 3,500 feet of guardrail at a cost of $450,000 and will complete the replacement of rusted guardrails in the area. An epoxy coating will be applied to better protect the guardrails from the salt air in this coastline environment.
Work is being done at night to minimize traffic disruptions, full closures are necessary for the safety of workers on the project. For lane closure information go to the HDOT website at hidot.hawaii.gov or like us on Facebook and follow us on Twitter.
