H1 Rehab Project Eastbound Full Closures Friday & Saturday, Midnight to 8 AM
Posted on Jun 25, 2014 in Highways News, NewsHONOLULU – The Hawaii Department of Transportation (HDOT) advises drivers of full closures of the H-1 Freeway in the eastbound direction from the vicinity of Likelike Highway to the vicinity of Ward Avenue from midnight Friday, June 27, until 8 a.m. Saturday, June 28, and from midnight Saturday, June 28, until 8 a.m. Sunday, June 29. During this time all westbound lanes will remain open.
These additional closures are necessary during the final phase of construction to keep the project on schedule for substantial completion by the end of July. Ongoing and continuous rain has delayed the striping of the eastbound lanes. If work is completed early, lanes will be reopened.
Sunday night, June 29, full closures continue in the westbound direction starting at 8 p.m. Eastbound lanes will have partial closures starting at 8 p.m.
Motorists are advised that the southbound Kalihi Street ramps will be closed from 7 a.m. until 1 p.m. on Sunday, June 29. The westbound onramp to the H1 Freeway will remain open. In addition, Kalihi Street northbound between King and School Streets will be closed from 1 p.m. until 3 p.m. The onramp to the H1 Freeway eastbound will remain open.
The HDOT appreciates motorists’ patience as we work to complete this $42 million federal aid project on time and on budget. The H1 Freeway Rehabilitation project is reconstructing one of the oldest and most congested sections of the H1 Freeway through town. In addition to pavement reconstruction and repaving, the project includes improved drainage, upgraded highway lighting, median glare screens, the widening of the Nuuanu Stream Bridge and Palama separation, and restriping to create four through lanes in each direction.
