Kalanianaole Highway Full Night Closures For Guardrail Installations Start December 7

HONOLULU – The Hawaii Department of Transportation (HDOT) advises Oahu motorists that full closures of Kalanianaole Highway will occur nightly on Sunday night, December 7, through Friday morning, December 12, from 9 p.m. until 4 a.m., between Lunalilo Home Road and Kealahou Street. Traffic will be detoured and motorists may use Hawaii Kai Drive as an alternate route around the work zone (see map below).

Crews will replace approximately 1,250 feet of rusted guardrail between Hanauma Bay and Sandy Beach at an estimated cost of $170,000. The new guardrails will include an epoxy coating to better protect them from corrosion in this coastline environment.

Work will be scheduled at night to minimize traffic disruptions and full closures are necessary for the safety of workers on the project. Motorists are advised to anticipate delays and to adjust travel times as necessary. Lane closure information will be distributed to the media, available on the HDOT website at hidot.hawaii.gov, and released through our social media channels on Facebook and Twitter, #hitraffic.
