HONOLULU – The Hawaii Department of Transportation (HDOT) advises Oahu motorists of multiple lane closures on the H-1 Freeway in the westbound direction between the Pearl City/Waimalu Off-Ramp (Exit 10) and the Waipahu Off-Ramp (Exit 8B) scheduled on the first two weekends of January for deck widening and concrete pours at the following times.

  • 11 p.m. Saturday night, Jan. 3, through 4:30 a.m. Monday morning, Jan. 5
  • 11 p.m. Saturday night, Jan. 10, through 4:30 a.m. Monday morning, Jan. 12

Three right lanes will be closed starting at 11 p.m. on Saturday night, through 6 a.m., Sunday morning, for the concrete pour. The lane closure will then be reduced to two right lanes from 6 a.m., Sunday, through 4:30 a.m., Monday morning during the concrete curing process.

During these curing periods, the majority of crew personnel and equipment will vacate the work site, but two right lanes will remain closed as the concrete cures and hardens.

Weekend lane closures will allow for deck widening and concrete pours as part of the H-1 Pearl City Viaduct Deck Widening and Repair project. Motorists are advised to drive slowly through the area to provide a safe work zone for construction crews and to minimize negative vibration effects on the concrete during the curing process. Westbound motorists are advised to adjust their schedules, expect delays and to use alternate routes such as Kamehameha Highway and Moanalua Road.
