Public Informational Meeting Scheduled For Replacement Of Wainiha Temporary Bridges
Posted on Mar 5, 2015 in Highways News, NewsLIHUE – The Hawaii Department of Transportation (HDOT) in partnership with the Federal Highway Administration, Central Federal Lands Highway Division (FHWA-CFLHD) will be holding a public meeting to discuss a project to replace three temporary bridges located on Kuhio Highway (Route 560) in Wainiha. Work will involve replacing the existing temporary bridges with permanent bridges while maintaining traffic throughout the construction. Work is currently in the environmental compliance and preliminary engineering phase. This meeting is being held to support the National Environmental Policy Act and Section 106 of the National Historic Preservation Act as well as applicable Hawaii Revised Statutes. The meeting is scheduled at the following location and time:

FHWA-CFLHD and HDOT are evaluating alternatives for advancement in the environmental process. Based on public input, a primary project purpose has been developed to replace the three Wainiha temporary bridges, with secondary objectives of improving operations, managing maintenance requirements, and balancing the project improvements with the character of the historic roadway corridor. FHWA-CFLHD and HDOT will be accepting public input on this purpose and need, width and alignment considerations, and bridge rail and decking types.
