Nawiliwili Road Improvements Project Construction Begins Tuesday, May 26
Posted on May 22, 2015 in Highways News, Main, NewsLIHUE – The Hawaii Department of Transportation (HDOT), Highways Division, advises Kauai motorists that construction for the Nawiliwili Road Improvements project will begin Tuesday, May 26. Multiple lanes will be closed on Nawiliwili Road between Kaumualii Highway and Kanani Street, Monday through Friday, from 7 a.m. to 3 p.m., daily, excluding state holidays. Throughout construction, Nawiliwili Road will be narrowed and will allow one lane of traffic in both directions.
The Nawiliwili Road Improvements project will replace the existing asphalt concrete pavement with more durable Portland Cement Concrete. Other improvements will include construction of new curbs, sidewalks, gutters and drainage, along with improved road signage, pavement markings and landscaping. The estimated project cost is $10.25 million, eighty-percent federally funded. Roadwork is anticipated to be completed by early 2016, weather permitting.
The HDOT reminds motorists to pay attention to traffic control signs, allow for extra travel time and to drive safely through the work zone area.
