Runway 8-26 closure for airfield maintenance at Hilo International Airport

Posted on Oct 6, 2015 in Airports News, Main, News

HILO – The Hawaii Department of Transportation (HDOT) advises Hilo and Keaukaha residents of an expected increase in aircraft traffic over the area due to airfield maintenance work at the Hilo International Airport.

Runway 8-26 will be closed nightly for airfield maintenance and runway painting on the following days:

Oct. 12, 2015 through Oct. 26, 2015 from 9:30 p.m. to 5 a.m., nightly

During this time, flight patterns will be modified to use Runway 3-21, resulting in increased air traffic over Hilo Town and the Keaukaha community. Please be advised that work is weather permitting and may be extended due to bad weather conditions.

Due to the scope of work, the airfield maintenance could not be done during the course of the day due to the regular scheduled commercial flights.

The HDOT appreciates residents’ patience and understanding as we work to improve the safety of the Hilo International Airport runways.
