Honolulu International Airport runways to temporarily close for maintenance

HONOLULU – The Hawaii Department of Transportation (HDOT) will temporarily close Runway 4R-22L for airfield maintenance work at the Honolulu International Airport two nights this week.  During the closure flights will be redirected to other operational runways which will alter the flight paths. This may increase air traffic noise over the Ewa communities during the closure hours.

Construction will occur Thursday night, Dec. 3, through Friday morning, Dec. 4, from 8 p.m. to 6:30 a.m. and Saturday night, Dec. 5, through Sunday morning, Dec. 6, from 10 p.m. to 6:30 a.m.  Construction is weather permitting.

There will also be a closure of Runway 8R-26L (a.k.a. the Reef Runway) for airfield maintenance work beginning Monday night, Dec. 7, through Saturday morning, Dec. 12, from 10 p.m. to 6 a.m., nightly. During the closure, flights will be redirected which may result in an increase in air traffic noise over the Kalihi and Downtown Honolulu area. All construction is weather permitting.

The HDOT appreciates residents’ patience and understanding as we work to improve the condition of the Honolulu International Airport’s runways.
